Course Description

This Achievement standard course provides students with the opportunity to extend and build on their knowledge around strategies to enhance health and wellbeing. Learning is through a range of key topics such as Mental Health, Resiliency, Interpersonal Skills, Sexuality Education, Drug Education and Nutrition.
Students develop an understanding of wellbeing by learning about the 'Whare Tapu Wha' Model of Hauora. They develop respect and compassion for others and an appreciation of diversity. They are encouraged to think critically and view situations from personal, interpersonal, and societal perspectives.
The course is made up or 2 to 3 internal standards and an external exam which allows students to obtain a course endorsement.
Knowledge, skills and experiences gained in Health Education are beneficial for many types of occupations. Students may want to take this course to learn more about their own health, or they may be looking for a career in Health.
