NCEA Level 3 Mechanical Engineering
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Mr J. van Mulbergt.
NCEA Level 3 Engineering enables students to tailor a course of between 18 and 22 credits that aligns with their future career aspirations. Students are able to select from a range of Standards that will result in a program that will focus on either:
- University Entrance approved subject course
- Unit Standards that align with a vocation of interest.
Being able to negotiate a course that meets either tertiary or traditional vocational pathways makes this course attractive to a wide range of students. Many students are also able to successfully access UE literacy credits in a subject of interest.
The course is a combination of theoretical and practical work in which the students are encouraged to develop and manufacture a product of interest. The focus of the course incorporates Achievement Standards that require the use of CNC routers. laser cutting and 3D printing, as well as the use of traditional machines and equipment.
