NCEA Level 3 Statistics

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mr J. O'Carroll.

This course will develop a student's ability to analyse data and think critically about the information it contains. Students will learn to manage their time to conduct week-long investigations and submit statistical reports. Students will work in groups to develop the necessary skills required for communicating statistical ideas. Students will be expected to write reports on their findings, helping them to develop their analytical writing skills.

The course covers three main areas: 

  • Statistics
  • Probability
  • Mathematics

The internally assessed topics involve extensive use of statistical software. Processes include reasoning and communication. The emphasis is on data handling and decision-making in a variety of contexts such as business, science, medicine and social science.

This course involves complex written reports of statistical nature, supporting further study in the areas of health sciences, psychology and commerce, etc.


Recommended Prior Learning

12+ credits in NCEA Level 2 Mathematics, or by arrangement with HOD Maths.
