NCEA Level 1 Mathematics
Course Description
Teacher in Charge:
All students must take Mathematics in Year 11. This course covers a range of topics and focuses on the key skills required to follow the pathway to NCEA Level 3 General Mathematics. It will focus on number, algebra, measurement, trigonometry, statistics and probability. Standards are assessed both internally and externally.
The Year 11 course is split into two half-year courses. All students study three internals in order to attain the 10 credits required for the Numeracy aspect of their NCEA Level One certificate.
Students then have the choice of whether to continue with an internal course and gain more credits within class assessments or to take an external course that will be assessed externally in a formal exam situation.
If time allows, a third topic (4 credits) could also be studied. This will be assessed in November.
