Course Description

NCEA Level 2 Engineering is a course that is designed to cater for a range of students and offers a wide selection of Achievement and Unit Standards that allow students to undertake a Unit or Achievement Standard course for which Excellence Endorsement is possible. Students are able to negotiate a course of between 16 and 20 credits that can be adapted to meet individual interests and talents.
It is particularly relevant for people wishing to pursue careers in general engineering, machining, toolmaking, fitting, engineering maintenance, engineering fabrication, and marine engineering.
Topics covered in this course include:
- health and safety;
- trade mathematics and mechanics;
- metals and other materials used in engineering;
- fasteners and assembly;
- sketching;
- measurement;
- engineering tools;
- machining or fabrication operations; and
- welding safety and procedures.
Contributions and Equipment/Stationery
Under the School Donations Scheme, if students want to take home their finished projects, a charge will be added to their school account. The cost covers essential materials such as wood, hardware, finishes, and other consumable supplies.
