NCEA Level 1 Food and Hospitality Technology

Course Description

Students will study a mix of Home Economics (Health) Achievement Standards and Hospitality Unit Standards in this hands-on practical course.

Students will engage in planning, preparing and serving foods that demonstrate an understanding of how foods influence well-being (Hauora), including what influences our food choices and decision-making around the foods we serve to our whānau and friends. These subjects comprise 15 credits of Achievement Standards, two internal and one external.



This course is a Level 1 course that develops food preparation skills through practical application that encourages safe food handling practices and good food choices.

In addition, we will be offering Hospitality Unit Standards, which include developing practical skills in knife handling, cooking and preparing a range of foods for service, such as finger foods, scones, cakes and sponges. This section of the course will be tailored around the interests of the students taking the course and would add an extra 4-6 credits to the course.
