Food and Hospitality Technology

In Food Technology students learn about the impact of food choices on the wellbeing of individuals and society. They investigate different nutritional issues and develop action plans to address a problem to achieve more equitable outcomes.

Hospitality is a subject that prepares students to work in the hospitality industry. Students will gain knowledge and skills in the preparation of food, working in a commercial kitchen, front of house and barista techniques. Working in the hospitality industry requires good interpersonal, communication and customer service skills and this course will help develop these attributes. Hospitality can lead to careers and apprenticeships such as barista, hotel & restaurant management, chef and catering services and bar management.

Students will study a mix of Achievement Standards and Hospitality Unit Standards in these hands-on practical courses.
