Course Description

NCEA Level 2 Digital Technology is available through NetNZ.

This course builds on the knowledge and skills gained in NCEA Level 1 Digital Technology. It involves a deeper understanding of the knowledge of tools and techniques in the areas of digital information, digital media and basic computer programming.

The course is Achievement Standard based and course accreditation is possible.

If a student decides to take this course without having completed Level 1 DTG, the course will be structured accordingly and be a mixture of Unit and Achievement Standards.

The aim of this course is to provide students with an opportunity to develop the skills to use a range of digital tools to design, create, manage and present information in a digital context. The course covers the following areas of study: 

  • Understanding of advanced concepts relating to managing shared information within information systems 
  • Implement advanced procedures to produce a specified digital information outcome with dynamically linked data 
  • Demonstrate understanding of advanced concepts of digital media 
  • Implement advanced procedures to produce a specified digital media outcome



This course opens the way to a wide variety of careers and interests. The achievement standards contribute to awards in creative industries, manufacturing and technology and services industries vocational pathways.

This is a general course designed for those planning to progress in business computing or tertiary study. It focuses on desktop publishing, developing a website, programming with Python and the computer science of error control.

Innovative use of digital technology to support learning in secondary education is being driven by a changing world and an emerging awareness of the importance of addressing the needs of all learners. Technology rich environments enable teachers to develop personalised, accessible, relevant, and high-quality learning opportunities that improve student engagement and achievement.
