Distance Learning

Online Learning via NetNZ

NetNZ is a community of schools which engages in e-learning opportunities for our students. NetNZ is a member of the Virtual Learning Network Community (VLNC), which uses a range of technologies to access courses online and provides e-learning opportunities to meet the needs of students.

Students enrolled via NetNZ have approximately an hour-long, online face-to-face class each week. The 'e-teacher' also provides an online classroom where the student works for 3-4 hours each week.

Your e-Dean will provide you with a timetable for your subject study time and the scheduled conference class. You can communicate regularly with your e-teacher through emails, online forums such as Google Communities, Google Hangouts, and text messaging.

You will need access to a computer and the internet during school to work independently in your online environment/online classroom. It is highly recommended that you can access the internet at home.

Students may apply to be enrolled in an online course if the subject/course you wish to study is:

  • Not currently offered at Twizel Area School
  • Clashes with another timetabled class
  • Offered through a tertiary organisation

To be a successful online learner, you need to:

  • Be self-motivated, well organised and committed to achieving
  • Have an excellent attendance record
