NCEA Level 3 Geography
Course Description

NCEA Level 1 Geography is available through NetNZ.
Externals include Human and Physical Geography components and a skills paper. There are four internally assessed pieces of work as well. Most material is on a Google Site and all work is completed using Google Docs. A selection of standards from those listed below is negotiated with students at the start of the year.
Throughout the year there will be an opportunity of sitting four internal assessment standards and three external achievement standards, all by negotiation between student and teacher. The course potentially offers 26 credits but will certainly offer at least 14.
Topics covered include:
- The Natural Process standard looks at coasts and is based on the Wairarapa Coast,
- Tourism as a Cultural process looks at a case study with material from NZ (Queenstown or Rotorua) and possibly Kenya
- Skills paper components are covered in the teaching of the two main topics.
- Internal standards content is by negotiation between teacher and student.
Recommended Prior Learning
Access to Google Apps EDUCO, Youtube (to view private videos) websites. WhatsApp, Google Hangouts and Google Classroom will support the main VC platform of ZOOM.
Students are encouraged to have their own devices with camera and microphone capabilities.
Contributions and Equipment/Stationery
Most resources will be provided but textbooks/workbooks may need to be purchased. Field work will need to be carried out independently.
Credit Information
You will be assessed in this course through all or a selection of the standards listed below.
This course is approved for University Entrance.
Total Credits Available: 26 credits.
Externally Assessed Credits: 12 credits.
Internally Assessed Credits: 14 credits.
