Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Mrs M. O'Carroll.
NCEA Level 2 History is available through NetNZ.
To understand the past is to understand the present. History gives students an insight into current world problems and New Zealand’s identity and place in world events. It explores people and events and how they have influenced the world. History is not just about presenting the facts, but observing and questioning values and attitudes. Students improve their communication and writing skills, which enables them to express clear, convincing and well-thought-out arguments. From ancient civilisations to contemporary pop culture, from wars to peace treaties, history is both a fascinating and intellectually stimulating subject.
The aim of this course is to provide students with the skills to become successful and competent historians. We will study a variety of recent historical events to provide interesting and engaging contexts to develop these skills.
Students will have some say in choosing topics to cover, especially for the 3.1 and 3.2 Achievement Standards.
